KBS BLOG: Our Space - Environment, Energy, Economy, and their Critical Intersections

April 21, 2011

We at KBS operate from a place of mission, an ardent dedication to Michigan’s long-term prosperity. Specifically, we focus our work in three critical spaces, three driving factors in our state’s progress: environmental protection, clean energy solutions, and economic development. We believe that by supporting business, nonprofit, and community efforts in these spaces we help position our clients as critical players in Michigan’s bright future.

We possess both the agency and experience in these sectors as they stand alone, as well as an intimate understanding of their fundamental overlap and intersections. Frankly, it is these intersections that excite us and energize our work. It is here that we see real potential for leading the way in Michigan’s future, and it is here that we help our clients thrive.

Environment
From the shores of the Great Lakes to the farms, parks, and open spaces that make Michigan exceptional, KBS supports clients dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of these natural assets.  Through work with clients like Heart of the Lakes Center for Land Conservation Policy, KBS is established in Michigan’s environmental integrity and is uniquely well positioned to support clients in this realm.

Energy
From wind technology to alternative fuels, KBS supports clients in Michigan’s growing energy sector. Michigan is a prime location for responsible energy industries that not only boost our state’s economy, but the nation’s as well. Through supporting clients like NextEnergy and Michigan State University, KBS brings both experience and perspective to the expansion of Michigan’s energy sector, from technical papers to program strategy and grant applications.

Economy
As Michigan redefines itself, it is the economic viability of our communities that will champion our state’s prosperity. Sound community planning and access to funding opportunities will lead the way as our state redefines itself. Through clients like Leap, KBS supports smart community and economic development initiatives, leading the way for Michigan’s growth.

The Intersections
Perhaps most important to our work at KBS is the understanding of the intersections of each of theses spaces, and the ways in which each depends on the others for success. For example, alternative energy is fundamentally connected to the renewable natural resources of the region; the economic prosperity of our communities is in many ways dependent on green spaces that provide a sense of place; growing industries like alternative energy are undeniable engines for smart community development in Michigan.

It is these fundamental intersections that allow us to know our work is not only important, but also particularly relevant to our clients. KBS provides businesses, nonprofit organizations, and communities with expertise in our various service areas as well as an intimate understanding of the space they are working within.
