Community and Economic Development

Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance Program
Due Dates: June 8, 2012; September 14, 2012
Average Awards: $1.7M for Public Works projects; $550K for Economic Adjustment projects
The U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Agency seeks applications for projects that focus on innovation and regional collaboration that encourage economic development. The program calls for requests from urban and rural communities developing initiatives that propose creative approaches to addressing rapidly changing economic conditions. Construction, non-construction, and revolving loan fund investments will be considered.

Michigan Community Revitalization Program
Due Date: Rolling Deadline
Max Award: Up to 25% of total eligible investment for a single project not to exceed $10M
The Michigan Strategic Fund in cooperation with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation seeks applications for the Michigan Community Revitalization Program. Grants, loans, and other economic assistance will be awarded to community revitalization projects that will accelerate private investment in areas of historical declining values, contribute to Michigan’s reinvention as a job generating state, foster redevelopment of functionally obsolete or historic properties, reduce blight, and protect natural resources.

Michigan Business Development Program
Due Date: Rolling Deadline
Max Award: Up to $10M
The Michigan Strategic Fund in cooperation with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation seek applications for the Michigan Business Development Program. Funds will be awarded to eligible businesses that create qualified new jobs and/or make new, qualified investments in Michigan. New jobs created must be held by Michigan residents in addition to those maintained in Michigan prior to the project.

Transportation

National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program
Due Date: June 4, 2012
Total Awards: $20M
The U.S. EPA seeks proposals for projects that will reduce diesel emissions from fleets operating in poor air quality areas. Projects must include one or more diesel emission reduction solutions that utilize a certified engine configuration and/or a verified technology. Eligible diesel vehicles, engines and equipment may include buses, medium-duty or heavy-duty trucks, marine engines, locomotives and non-road engines, equipment or vehicles used in construction, handling of cargo, agriculture, mining or energy production.

Transportation Enhancement Program
Due Date: Rolling Deadline
The Michigan Department of Transportation funds projects that enhance Michigan’s intermodal transportation system and improve the quality of life for Michigan citizens, like nonmotorized paths, streetscapes, and historic preservation of transportation facilities.

Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency

Energy Savings through Improved Mechanical Systems and Building Envelope Technologies
Due Date: June 12, 2012
Max Award: $1.5M
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Program seeks to fund projects that will develop technologies and tools that will make buildings more energy efficient, productive, and affordable. Support will be given to projects that concentrate on energy saving heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems or energy saving building envelope solutions. Projects will be expected to focus on the research, development, demonstration, and commercialization paths of the proposed technology while addressing any shortcomings or barriers to market entry.

USDA 2012 Repowering Assistance Program
Due Date: June 1, 2012
Total Awards: $25M
The USDA Rural Business-Cooperative Service and Rural Utilities Service are accepting applications for funding to replace fossil fuel used to produce heat or power to operate the biorefineries with renewable biomass. Funding will be provided to help offset the costs associated with converting existing fossil fuel systems to renewable biomass fuel systems.

Sunshot Incubator Program
Due Date: May 29, 2012
Total Awards: $12M
The U.S. Department of Energy is accepting applications for its Sunshot Incubator Program that aims to make solar energy a viable source for the nation’s power needs. Funding will be awarded to small businesses looking to transition from a proof of concept or business plan to domestic commercialization or solar energy deployment to market.

Plug and Play Photovoltaics
Letter of Intent Due Date: May 16, 2012
Application Due Date: June 18, 2012
Max Award: $12.5M over five years
The U.S. Department of Energy seeks to fund projects that develop transformational solar technologies and systems utilizing a “Plug and Play” concept for the residential photovoltaic market. Projects should explore the relationship between electricity consumers, utilities, and distributed photovoltaic generation.

Energy Storage SBIR/STTR
Notice of Intent Due Date: May 14, 2012
Application Due Date: May 23, 2012
Max Award: Combined Phase I/II up to $1.725M, Combined Phase I/II/IIS awards up to $3.225M
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency- Energy seeks applications for the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs. This program seeks to fund the development of transformational technologies that reduce the barriers to mass adoption of electrical energy storage for stationary and transportation applications.

Natural Resources and Environment

Acres for America
Pre-proposal due: June 1, 2012
Full proposal due: August 1, 2012
Total Awards: $2.5M
Acres for America is a partnership between Walmart Stores, Inc. and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. The Acres for America program seeks to fund projects that conserve large, landscape-level areas that are important to habitat for fish, wildlife, and plants through the acquisition of interest in real property.
Community Forest and Open Space Conservation Program
Due Date: June 14 2012 if submitting to the Forest Service
Max Award: $400K
The USDA, Forest Service State and Private Forestry, Cooperative Forestry staff, seeks applications for the Community Forest and Open Space Conservation Program. Funds will be awarded to projects that establish community forests through fee simple acquisition of private forest land. The purpose of this program is to develop community forests by protecting forest land from being converted for non-forest uses while providing environmental, educational, and recreational benefits to communities.

North American Wetlands Conservation Act Grants Program
Due Dates: July 27, 2012
Total Awards: $43M
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Division of Bird Habitat Conservation is seeking applications for funding through its North American Wetlands Conservation Act Grants Program. Funds will be awarded to public-private partnerships carrying out projects in the United States that further the goals of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act. These projects must involve long-term protection, restoration, and/or enhancement of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.

Recovery Implementation Fund
Due Date: July 31, 2012
Total Awards: $500K
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Endangered Species Program seeks applications for funding to assist in securing endangered or threatened species. Projects may undertake restoration actions that will lead to the delisting of a species, help prevent the extinction of a species, or aid in the recovery of a species.

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative
Due Date: May 24, 2012
Total Awards: $20M
The U.S. EPA solicits applications for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Applications are requested following categories: toxic substances, invasive species, nearshore health and nonpoint source pollution, and accountability, education, monitoring, evaluation, and partnerships. The EPA is particularly interested in projects that facilitate the creation of new jobs, promote environmental justice, and engage community-based organizations

U.S. Standard Grants Program
Due Date: July 27, 2012
Total Awards: $43M between two funding cycles
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Division of Bird Habitat Conservation seeks proposals for the U.S. Standard Grants Program. 2012 Farmers Market Promotion Program

Max Award: $100K
The Agricultural Marketing Service seeks applications for the 2012 Farmers Market Promotion Program to support the promotion of domestic consumption of agricultural commodities by expanding direct producer-to-consumer marketing opportunities. This can include new farmers markets, roadside stands, community supported agriculture, and other direct producer-to-consumer infrastructures.
